Elizabeth, who was born in 1956, left school at the age of twelve to care for her ailing mother and to younger children in the family.She married in her teens, had six children and has remained in the Champagne Valley of Natal all her life.When her husband became unemployed many years ago she became the breadwinner of her family.
Elizabeth, was introduced to Ardmore and Fèe Halsted-Berning in 1989.From the onset she found her talent in coiling and handbuilding.Her work is particularly feminine, and often includes flowers as well as animals, birds, butterflies and bugs.Her pieces radiates excellence in the movement and balance of the dishes, tureens, teapots and jugs for which she has become renowned.Her creativity is her passion in life.
Elizabeth, an affectionate women with an inner strength and humanity, has blossomed into an artist of international stature.In 2001 she travelled to Kuala Lumpur with an Ardmore exhibition organised by the South African High Commission.While there, she received the honour of being presented to the Queen of Malaysia.Her work was also shown on the Christie's exhibition in London in 2004. |
