Painter : Jabu Nene

Jabu discovered a passion for art while at school and had the good fortune, in 1991 when she was 15 years old, to be introduced to the colourful world of Ardmore and Fèe Halsted-Berning.Her mentor was Ardmore's legendary Punch Shabalala direct her creative talent. Her loyalty and love of Ardmore have resulted in her being voted by her peers to represent them on the Ardmore Excellence Fund.

Jabu's exceptionally striking and original pieces, which are both strong in design and colour and have enormous charm, have earned her a position as one of Ardmore's leading painters. Her pieces included in the Christie's exhibition in London in January 2004 received high acclaim, assuring her of a special place at Ardmore. She represented Ardmore at the Edinburgh exhibition to celebrate 10 years of democracy in South Africa in January 2004.

Although starting her life in a large family and appalling poverty, Jabu has not forgotten the problems she faced and the help she received. She laughingly says her most sacred desire is to teach the magical essence of art to others and to share what little she has with those who have nothing.
