Nkosinathi was born in 1979 in the Natal Midlands and after leaving school took a job as a gardner and met a neighbour, Alson Zuma. This new friend had been taught to carve wood panels and had been given clay by David Fox of Fort Nottingham.Nkosinathi tried he's hand in modelling but the two artists had no kiln and their sundried creations were fragile and broke easily.Nonetheless, David Fox was highly impressed with Nkosinathi, and asked Fèe Halsted-Berning to evaluate his work.
Fèe immediately recognised the potential of this young man but he was reluctant to give up his independence. In 2002 Nkosonathi was commissioned by John Bates to work on a body of ceramics for an exhibition of Nguni cattle.John asked Fèe if she would provide the supervision, materials and kilns to enable Nkosinathi to complete the project. He blossomed under the Ardmore support system, discovering that with Fèe there was much he could learn while he was able to enjoy freedom from financial pressure.
Nkosinathi has a wonderful ability to observe details in nature and is maturing into a fine sculptor. His work was first exhibited by Christie's, London in 2003.A year later many of his sculptures were again exhibited and auctioned by Christie's.
