Zodwa disliked school intensely and left at the age of twelve in 1988. She followed her sister Jabu who was a painter at Ardmore and had the good fortune to be taken under the wing of Fee Halsted-Berning. For a while she worked part-time at Ardmore while Fee taught her the skills of ceramic painting.
Zodwa became a permanent member of the Ardmore team of artists in 2001 and, with the continued support of Fee, has blossomed as a painter of exceptional ability. Her striking compositions are colourful and, at times, graphically structured. With her careful attention to detail, her art pieces have become `modern collectables'.
Many of Zodwa's pieces were included in the Ardmore collection exhibited at Christie's in London in January 2004. A charming chameleon tureen which contrasts the dark greys of Africa's winter with the bright yellows of spring flowers was one of many of her ceramics which attracted keen interest and bidding at the auction.
As a result of her work, Zodwa, one of six children, has been able to ease the financial hardship of her family. Her dream is of a good marriage, a beautiful home, having two children and continuing to create ceramics at Ardmore .
