Traditional Zulu Pottery was fired in dung and wood firings.The "Curilas" water or beer pots were hand coiled with red terracotta river clay.Decoration had to be added with clay or scratched into with sharp tools, they were then burnished with a stone and the blakened by the fire or bootpolish and graphite were used to create colour....More»

Bonnie Ntshalintshali's death as a result of Aids has been followed by the loss of many more of the wonderfully talented Ardmore artists. For Fèe it has been a time of great sadness while she has watched her friends and colleagues die. Bonnie Ntshalintshali Museum : In honor of an Ardmore Legend


Bonnie's parents, Janet & Gwen Ntshalintshali.

Fèe Halsted-Berning opened the Bonnie Ntshalintshali Museum in the Natal Midlands in March 2003 in memory of Bonnie and many other artists at Ardmore who died as a result of the Aids pandemic. It is the first Museum in South Africa to be dedicated to a black woman artist. The museum is in the process of being reestablished at Lavendula....More»
