Nhlanhla Nsudwane Day to day life for Nsudwane in the Mangweni Village, 10 kilometres, in the mountains, above the Ardmore Studio, is seeped in the calm of Zulu cultural values. In a world where black is still viewed with negative prejudices, Nsuwdane finds pride in what still holds meaning and value to him. He wields a looping whip, lubricating society and attempts to rekindle brotherhood – ubuntu – and belonging. Painters sensitive to Nsudwane’s message leave the Zulu figures unpainted and challenge the viewer to reconsider societies preconceptions. |
